Mayor Mike Bloomberg thinks I’m “a very interesting person.” So he told me in a dream last night. It was a lively dream, one I was conscious of experiencing while my subconscious was sorting through the day’s mental files.
Over the kitchen sink this morning, while washing some fruit for breakfast, I started laughing as the conscious state kicked in and recall of the dream began. Why in the world would Mike Bloomberg make an appearance in my dreams?!
Last night after a run in the rain I cooled down while watching “Access Mayor” on Channel 74. (Keep tuned on the linked site for the upload of the video episode.) The channel was broadcasting the Mayor’s regular show but it was a recording of his lengthy Q&A interview on the stage of Google Inc. in Mountain View, California earlier this week. This was the trip during which he declared he was leaving the Republican Party. Newsworthy.
If you have the opportunity to view the Google Q&A, do so. He may get into your subconscious, too. Mayor Mike has grown on me. He’s the one billionaire whose success I can stomach. As he put it, “I did the business thing (Bloomberg), I did the government thing (two-time mayor of NYC), and soon I’ll do the philanthropy thing.” (His developing philanthropic organization, though for years while mayor he’s quietly shored up the City through angel grants large and small that he designated through the Carnegie Corporation). He credits his parents, especially his father, for his enlightened views on the responsibilities and obligations of philanthropy.
Mike Bloomberg thinks I’m very interesting (in my dreams). As he evolves from a capitalist to a public servant to our era’s Rockefeller with the long-view on philanthropy’s transformative potential in American society, I think he’s very interesting, too.
